Kedarnath is one of the Hindu Char Dham Yatra. It is also one of the temples situated at a high altitude and is believed to be created by the Pandavas of Mahabharata. Kedarnath is situated at an astonishing height of 3584 meters above sea level near the head of the Mandakini River. The temple is said to be more than 1,200 years old and one of the 12 jyotirlingas in India. The majestic Kedarnath peak (6,940 meters) stands behind the temple along with other peaks and adds to the scenery of the area.
The Kedarnath temple lies amidst the majestic snow-capped Garhwal Himalayan ranges and is visited by thousands of tourists each year. The Kedarnath temple closes on the first day of Kartik (October-November) and reopens in Vaishakh (April-May) every year.
