Why go to Jammu & Kashmir
Kashmir has been called paradise on earth for centuries, and one look at the valley explains why. Srinagar's Dal Lake, with its shikaras and houseboats, is unlike anywhere else in India. Around it lie meadows and valleys that change completely with the seasons: Gulmarg with its snow and gondola, Sonamarg at the gateway to the high mountains, and Pahalgam along the Lidder river with Betaab Valley and Aru Valley close by. Throw in Mughal gardens, kahwa and wazwan, and it is a trip you will talk about for years.
Best time to visit
April to June brings spring blooms and pleasant days, ideal for sightseeing. Autumn, around September to November, paints the valley gold with chinar leaves. December to February is snow season, perfect if you want Gulmarg under a white blanket, but expect cold days.
How to reach
Srinagar airport is well connected to Delhi and other major cities. Jammu is the main railhead, and from there the drive to Srinagar runs through the mountains. Many travellers from North India start with an overnight journey from Delhi to Jammu.
Our Kashmir trips
Our Kashmir backpacking trip is 5 nights / 6 days, starting from ₹22,499 per person. It begins with a sleeper AC bus from Delhi to Jammu and then heads to Srinagar, with day trips to Gulmarg and Sonamarg, a visit to Pahalgam covering Aru Valley, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari, a one-hour shikara ride and a night on a houseboat in Srinagar. Trips run every Friday, with groups usually between 8 and 50 travellers, many of them solo.
What is the best time to visit Kashmir?
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) are great for sightseeing, while December to February is the time to go for snow.
How many days do I need for Kashmir?
Five to seven days is enough to cover Srinagar, Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Pahalgam. Our Kashmir trip is 5 nights / 6 days.
Is the Kashmir trip good for first-timers and solo travellers?
Yes. The itinerary covers the classic highlights, and many of our travellers join solo and travel with the group from Delhi.

What should I pack for Kashmir?
Layers for every season, since mornings and evenings are cool even in summer. In winter, carry a heavy jacket, thermals, gloves, a woollen cap and waterproof shoes.
