Overview

A Ladakh road trip that goes beyond the usual circuit: Leh, Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, Hanle, Umling La and Tso Moriri. It is a 7 Nights / 8 Days group trip that starts and ends in Leh; it does not start from Delhi, so you make your own way to Leh. You can ride your own bike, ride a rented bike solo or as a pair, or travel in an SUV or tempo traveller. Plan to reach Leh at least one day before the trip starts so that you complete the 48 hours of acclimatisation the government SOPs ask for.

Day 1 is for arriving and acclimatising in Leh. Day 2 crosses Khardung La to Nubra Valley, with stops at Diskit Monastery and the Hunder sand dunes. Day 3 runs from Nubra to Pangong Tso for a night in camps by the lake. Day 4 is the 8 to 9 hour drive to Hanle through Lukung and Chushul, with a visit to the Hanle Observatory. Day 5 is the ride to Umling La and back to Hanle. Day 6 goes to Tso Moriri via Nyoma and the Mahe bridge, Day 7 returns to Leh, and Day 8 is departure. Stays are in hotels, camps, cottages and homestays on triple sharing, with a backup vehicle, a mechanic, inner line permits and an oxygen cylinder along. Batches run from May to early September. Prices start at β‚Ή19,000 per person for the Own Bike option on triple sharing (5% GST extra).
