Overview

This 9 Nights / 10 Days road trip runs from Manali to Leh and on to Srinagar, with Nubra Valley, Turtuk and Pangong Tso in between. You can ride your own bike, ride a rented bike solo or with a pillion, or travel in an SUV or Tempo Traveller. The package includes the overnight Volvo from Delhi to Manali, which leaves Delhi between 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM, and the trip ends in Srinagar, so you arrange your own journey home from Srinagar Airport. Batches run from May to September.

After a day in Manali to see the town and collect the bikes, you ride through Atal Tunnel and over Baralacha La to camps at Sarchu, then cross Gata Loops, Lachung La and Tanglang La to Leh. From Leh you go over Khardung La to Nubra Valley for two nights at Diskit, with a day trip to Turtuk, then follow the Shyok route to Pangong Tso and return to Leh over Chang La. The last two days cover Leh to Kargil through Sham Valley and Lamayuru, and Kargil to Srinagar via Drass and Zoji La, ending with a night on a houseboat. Prices start at β‚Ή21,000 per person on triple sharing with your own bike (5% GST extra).

Day-wise itinerary

  1. 00Day 0Delhi to Manali

    Leave Delhi for Manali by Volvo bus between 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM. Overnight journey to Manali.

  2. 01Day 1Manali sightseeing and self exploration

    Check in to the hotel, freshen up and relax. After breakfast, head out for local sightseeing in Manali. Places to visit: Hadimba Temple, Jogni Waterfall, Vashisht Temple and Mall Road. Go on a cafe crawl in Old Manali, collect your bikes and return to the hotel by evening. Dinner, a briefing for the next day and an overnight stay.

  3. 02Day 2Manali to Sarchu via Jispa and Baralacha La

    Wake up early and check out from the hotel. Start your ride on the Leh–Manali Highway. Drive through Atal Tunnel into Lahaul Valley and along the Chandra river to Keylong, the district headquarters of Lahaul & Spiti. Visit Suraj Taal, a small lake at the top of Baralacha La. Arrive at Sarchu. Overnight stay in camps.

  4. 03Day 3Sarchu to Leh via Gata Loops, Lachung La and Tanglang La

    After breakfast at the campsite, head for Leh. On the way, cross the Gata Loops (21 hairpin bends) at 4,669 m, then Nakee La and Lachung La, just above Brandy Bridge. Reach Pang, an army base at 4,600 m, by afternoon and have lunch there. Drive through the Moore Plains and cross Tanglang La. Continue through Upshi and Karu to Leh. Check in to the hotel for an overnight stay.

  5. 04Day 4Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La

    After breakfast, head for Nubra Valley over Khardung La. The valley lies between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges. Check in to the hotel and visit the sand dunes of the cold desert. A camel safari is available at your own cost. Visit Diskit village and its monastery. Return to the hotel by evening for dinner and an overnight stay.

  6. 05Day 5Day trip to Turtuk

    After breakfast, leave for Turtuk, a remote village of over 4,000 residents a few kilometres from the Line of Control. Spend some time in and around Turtuk village. Return to Diskit by evening. Dinner and an overnight stay.

  7. 06Day 6Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso via Shyok

    After breakfast, check out and start for Pangong Tso via Agam and Shyok. The lake is known for changing colour several times a day against the mountains behind it. Reach Pangong Lake and check in to the campsite. Dinner and an overnight stay.

  8. 07Day 7Pangong Tso to Leh via Chang La

    Wake up to the view of Pangong Lake and have breakfast. Drive back to Leh over Chang La. On the way, visit Thiksey Monastery, Shey Palace and Druk Padma School, where the last scene of the film 3 Idiots was shot. On reaching Leh, riders drop their bikes. Rest for a while, then dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel in Leh.

  9. 08Day 8Leh to Kargil via Sham Valley

    After breakfast, drive towards Sham Valley. Visit the Hall of Fame museum built by the Indian Army, Gurudwara Patthar Sahib and Magnetic Hill. Stop at the Indus Sangam viewpoint to see the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus rivers, and at Shanti Stupa. Pass through Lamayuru village, where the landscape resembles the surface of the moon. Reach Kargil by evening and rest for a while. Dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel in Kargil.

  10. 09Day 9Kargil to Srinagar via Drass and Zoji La

    Wake up early and leave for Srinagar after breakfast. Pass through Drass, known as one of the coldest inhabited places in India and often called the Gateway to Ladakh. Cross Zoji La to Sonmarg and continue to Srinagar. Reach Srinagar by evening and check in to the houseboat. Dinner and an overnight stay.

  11. 10Day 10Srinagar and departure

    After breakfast, complete the check-out formalities. Transfer to Srinagar Airport for your onward journey.

Reporting point

The Volvo bus to Manali leaves Delhi between 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM. The exact boarding point is shared once your booking is confirmed. The trip ends at Srinagar Airport.
  • The trip ends in Srinagar. Book your own onward travel from Srinagar Airport for the last day.
  • Prices are per person on triple sharing. Twin sharing is β‚Ή3,000 per person extra and single sharing is β‚Ή10,000 extra.
  • Any damage to the bike is borne by the rider.
  • You will be travelling through high-altitude cold desert. Consult your doctor before the trip, be physically fit, and tell us about any existing health condition before travelling.
  • Medical facilities are very limited in these remote areas. We help arrange logistics in a medical emergency, but we are not responsible for the emergency and the expenses are borne by the traveller.
  • The itinerary advises Diamox 250 mg (acetazolamide) twice a day, after breakfast and after dinner, starting at least two days before the journey to Leh and continuing for two days after arriving. Check with your doctor before taking it.
  • Avoid physical exertion on your first two days in Leh.
  • Drink at least 2 to 3 litres of water a day, and avoid alcohol, smoking and sedatives.
  • Eat a light meal on the first day at altitude to avoid indigestion.
  • If you notice symptoms of HAPE, HACE or AMS, consult a doctor immediately.
  • An oxygen cylinder is kept in the backup vehicle for emergencies. We recommend carrying portable oxygen as well.
  • Riding gear is provided, but we recommend bringing your own helmet for comfort.
  • Only postpaid mobile networks (Jio, Airtel, BSNL) work in the region.
  • Keep luggage to about 60 litres. You will need to move it between the backup vehicle and the stays.
  • An extra mattress is provided for the third person in triple sharing rooms.
  • Hotels in Ladakh are more basic than in other parts of the country. Stays are subject to availability; if a booked hotel is unavailable, you are moved to a comparable property.
  • Breakfast on the last day depends on your departure time.
  • The itinerary can change because of weather, road conditions, the physical ability of participants or other disruptions. We may change the schedule in the interest of safety and comfort, without changing the overall duration.
  • Rates can change if services or hotels change. Any increase caused by changes you request, such as the number of guests or the hotel, is paid by the traveller.
  • Rescheduling: a change requested at least 15 days before the travel date carries a 30% rescheduling fee. Bookings can't be rescheduled within 15 days of the travel date. If you reschedule and later cancel, the cancellation policy applies and the rescheduling fee isn't refunded.
  • In a force majeure situation (natural disaster, political unrest or similar), we may reschedule the tour or offer an alternative itinerary.

Where does the trip start and end, and how do I get there?

You reach Delhi on your own. The package includes the overnight Volvo from Delhi to Manali, which leaves between 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM, and the ride starts from Manali two days later. The trip ends in Srinagar with a transfer to Srinagar Airport, and you book your own journey home from there.

What are the travel options and what do they cost?

Per person on triple sharing: β‚Ή21,000 with your own bike, β‚Ή40,000 as a solo rider on a rented bike, β‚Ή30,500 as one of two riders sharing a rented bike, and β‚Ή28,500 in an SUV or Tempo Traveller. 5% GST is extra.

What do twin and single sharing cost?

Twin sharing is β‚Ή3,000 per person extra and single sharing is β‚Ή10,000 extra, on top of the triple sharing price for your travel option. An extra mattress is provided for the third person in triple sharing rooms.

What is included?

9 nights in hotels, camps or cottages and homestays, the meals mentioned in the itinerary, the Volvo from Delhi to Manali, inner line permits, the Ladakh Union Fee, a team captain, a backup vehicle for luggage and repairs, a mechanic, an oxygen cylinder, a first aid kit and a bonfire night. Riders on the biking option also get the bike for 8 days and fuel as per the itinerary; the SUV / Tempo Traveller option covers the vehicle with driver charges, tolls and parking.

Are the bike, fuel and riding gear provided?

On the biking option, bike rent for 8 days and fuel as per the itinerary are included. Riding gear is provided: helmet, riding gloves for riders, elbow guards and knee pads. We recommend bringing your own helmet for comfort. Any damage to the bike is paid for by the rider.

What should I know about the altitude?

The route crosses high passes and stays in cold desert at altitude. Consult your doctor before the trip, drink 2 to 3 litres of water a day, avoid alcohol and smoking, and avoid exertion on your first two days in Leh. An oxygen cylinder travels in the backup vehicle and we recommend carrying portable oxygen too.

How do I book and pay?

Reserve your seat by paying 50% of the trip cost by net banking or UPI, and pay the rest 4 days before the trip. 5% GST is extra.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancel more than 10 days before the travel date and 50% of the advance is refunded; 5 to 10 days before, 25% of the advance; less than 5 days before, there is no refund. There is no refund for no-shows or early check-outs.
