Overview

Sar Pass is a 13,800 ft pass above Kasol, a village in the Kullu region of Himachal Pradesh, and the trek to it is usually done in the summer months (April to June), when there is snow on the route. This 4 Nights / 5 Days trek runs Kasol to Kasol: you need to reach Kasol on your own, and the meeting point and reporting time are shared once your booking is confirmed.

Day 1 is the trek from Kasol to Grahan village, with a night in a local guesthouse. Day 2 climbs through forest to the camp at Mung Thach, and Day 3 continues up a steep ridge to the Nagaru campsite. Day 4 is the early climb in snow to Sar Pass, followed by the descent to the camp at Biskeri Thach. Day 5 comes down through Pulga, Tulga and Barshaini and returns to Kasol. Camping, all meals, permits, trekking equipment and a trek leader are included. Departures are every Saturday and Sunday. Prices start at β‚Ή6,499 per person on triple sharing (5% GST extra); dual sharing is β‚Ή7,499 per person.

  • Guesthouse night in Grahan village
  • Camping at Mung Thach, Nagaru and Biskeri Thach
  • Trail through rhododendron and pine forest, meadows and snow

Day-wise itinerary

  1. 01Day 1Trek from Kasol to Grahan village

Start from Kasol and trek along the left bank of the Grahan Nallah. The first part of the trail is straightforward and is used regularly by locals. Away from the river, the trail gets rockier and climbs into a rhododendron forest, which blooms in season. Reach Grahan village, the last settlement with mobile network on the route. Overnight stay at a local guesthouse in Grahan.

  2. 02Day 2Trek from Grahan village to Mung Thach

Leave Grahan and head north towards Mung Thach on a trail commonly used by villagers. Get the first views of distant points such as Sar Top and the Nagaru ridge. The trail gets steeper and more demanding as it climbs through dense forest. Mung Thach has views of the Chandrakhani range. Overnight camping in the forest at Mung Thach.

  3. 03Day 3Trek from Mung Thach to Nagaru

Trek from Mung Thach towards Nagaru; the path may be under snow. The route includes a steep climb up a ridge, which needs care, especially in snow. Reach the Nagaru campsite, with views of Manikaran and the surrounding mountains. The camp faces north, so expect a cold night. Overnight camping at Nagaru.

  4. 04Day 4Nagaru to Biskeri Thach via Sar Pass

Start early for the steep ascent in snow to Sar Pass. Take in the panoramic views from the pass and stop for photographs. The descent includes a slide down towards Biskeri, done with proper precautions. Continue through valleys and across streams to Biskeri Thach. Overnight camping among the meadows and pine forest at Biskeri Thach.

  5. 05Day 5Trek from Biskeri Thach to Kasol

Trek down from Biskeri Thach through dense forest and cross a brook. The path splits towards the twin villages of Pulga and Tulga, divided by the creek, and continues to Barshaini. Cross the Parvati River and return to Kasol, where the trek ends.
