Spiti in winter is a different trip from Spiti in summer. The Manali side is closed by snow, so every winter group trip goes the long way from Delhi to Shimla and up through Kinnaur, with most nights in simple homestays and temperatures well below freezing. Because the route is fixed by the season, the trips offered by different operators look similar on the surface. The differences are in the details: how many days you actually spend in Spiti, which villages are on the plan, what's included, and what you pay on top.
We compared four operators' Winter Spiti group trips: Travel Devils, JustWravel, Go4Explore and WanderOn.

Winter plans are weather-dependent everywhere: high villages like Langza, Hikkim and Komic can be cut off by snow on any trip.
What each trip is best for
Travel Devils: shortest trip, lowest starting price, weekly dates. Seven days door to door, from ₹16,999 on quad sharing, with a departure every Friday so you can pick your week. The plan covers the classic winter highlights (Chitkul, Nako, a night in Tabo, Dhankar, Key Monastery, Chicham Bridge and the high villages of Langza, Hikkim and Komic) with three nights around Kaza. Budget beyond the ticket price
All three operators whose pages we read add 5% GST on top. Also plan for:
- Lunches: most packages include breakfast and dinner only.
- Heaters: some homestays charge extra for room heaters (Go4Explore lists this as excluded).
- Entry fees, snacks and personal expenses.
- Travel insurance: not included in our trip or Go4Explore's; JustWravel lists medical insurance in its inclusions.
Preparing for winter Spiti
- It's cold. Night temperatures regularly drop well below freezing. Pack thermals, a heavy down jacket, woollen socks, gloves and a cap.
- Water and power are limited. Many homestays have no running water in winter and power cuts are common. Carry a power bank.
- Altitude. Kaza sits at around 3,650 m. Take it easy on the first day, drink water, and check with your doctor if you have a medical condition.
- Network. Mobile coverage is patchy beyond Kinnaur.
How to choose
- Count your leave. Seven days or nine?
- Compare the price you'll actually pay: add GST and pick the same sharing type on each.
- Check which places matter to you: Sarahan, Kibber and extra nights in Kalpa aren't on every plan.
- Check the dates: weekly departures or a specific batch.
- Read the cancellation policy before paying the booking amount.
Frequently asked questions
Which Winter Spiti trip is the cheapest? On quad sharing, Travel Devils starts at ₹16,999 and Go4Explore at ₹17,999; JustWravel's 9-day trip starts at ₹21,500. All three add 5% GST. WanderOn's Spiti packages page says "From ₹16,499", but we couldn't verify its winter trip.
How many days do I need for Spiti in winter? At least 7 days from Delhi, because the only open route goes through Shimla and Kinnaur and involves long drives. Nine days gives a more relaxed pace.
Can I go to Spiti in winter from Manali? No. The Manali side (via Kunzum Pass) is closed by snow in winter, so winter trips go via Shimla and Kinnaur.
Is Winter Spiti safe for beginners? It's a road trip, not a trek, so you don't need trekking experience. But it's cold, remote and at high altitude, so you should be in reasonable health and pack properly.
When do Winter Spiti trips run? Roughly October to March or later, depending on the operator. Travel Devils departs every Friday; JustWravel and Go4Explore run dated batches.
