Overview

Kuari Pass is in the Chamoli district of the Garhwal Himalayas, and the route is also known as the Lord Curzon trail. The trek goes from Joshimath through the Auli and Gurson meadows, oak and deodar forest and snow to the pass. This 5 Nights / 6 Days trek starts and ends at Rishikesh Railway Station: you need to reach Rishikesh on your own, ideally a day before, and reporting is between 6:30 AM and 7:30 AM on Day 1. Batches run from May to September, with departures every day.

Day 1 is the 300 km drive to Joshimath and a lodge night. Day 2 is a short drive and a 6-7 km trek to Gulling campsite. Day 3 is a 6-7 km trek to Khullara. Day 4 climbs to Kuari Pass and walks down to camp. Day 5 treks down to Dhak and drives to Joshimath, and Day 6 is the drive back to Rishikesh. Transfers, camping, meals, permits, trekking equipment and a trek leader are included. Prices start at β‚Ή9,999 per person (5% GST extra); dual sharing accommodation costs β‚Ή1,000 extra per person.

Day-wise itinerary

  1. 01Day 1Drive to Joshimath (about 300 km)

    Distance: approximately 300 km. Drive time: about 8 to 9 hours. Meet at the pickup point by 7:00 AM. Drive to Joshimath past Devprayag and Rudraprayag, with the Ganga and Alaknanda rivers alongside the road. Overnight stay in a lodge at Joshimath.

  2. 02Day 2Joshimath to Gulling | Trek

    Trek distance: about 6-7 km. Trek duration: about 5-6 hours. After an early breakfast, take a short drive to the start of the trek. Hike through the green slopes of Gulling and across the Auli meadows. Pass through the woods, with views of Nanda Devi and other peaks, before the open meadows of Gurson. Descend through oak, chestnut, deodar and maple trees to the Gulling campsite. Overnight stay in tents.

  3. 03Day 3Gulling to Khullara | Trek

    Trek distance: approximately 6-7 km. Trek duration: approximately 4-5 hours. After breakfast, start the climb to Khullara through sheep pastures. From Khullara you can see Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, Neelkanth, Dronagiri, Haathi-Ghodi and other mountains. Overnight stay in tents.

  4. 04Day 4Khullara to Kuari Pass and Tali Top | Trek

    Trek distance: around 7-8 km. Trek duration: around 7-8 hours. Breakfast at 5:00 AM, then start the climb over steep, rocky terrain towards Kuari Pass. Walk through deep snow on the way up, with views of Nanda Devi and Trishul. After time at the pass, walk down to the camp. If you reach the base camp early, you can trek down to the Tali Top camp.

  5. 05Day 5Tali Top to Dhak | Drive to Joshimath

    After breakfast, hike down through small villages and dense thickets to Dhak, on the road that connects Joshimath and the Niti-Malari valley. Stop at Tugasi and Kharsi to learn about the local culture. Drive from Dhak to Joshimath. Hot dinner, a hot shower and an overnight stay in a lodge at Joshimath.

  6. 06Day 6Joshimath to Rishikesh by road

    Leave Joshimath at 7:00 AM. Drive to Rishikesh, where the trek ends. Drop between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM (timings can change with weather and road conditions).

  • No refund for no-shows or early check-outs.
  • Meals, activities or services you don't use aren't adjusted or refunded.
  • If a trip is cancelled because of political unrest, government guidelines, extremely poor weather or unsafe conditions, you get a full credit (equal to the amount paid) to use on any future Travel Devils booking, not a cash refund.

Day 2 is about 6-7 km in 5-6 hours to Gulling. Day 3 is about 6-7 km in 4-5 hours to Khullara. Day 4, the pass day, is around 7-8 km in 7-8 hours and starts with a 5:00 AM breakfast. Day 5 is the walk down to Dhak, followed by the drive to Joshimath.

Reserve your seat by paying 50% of the trip cost, and pay the rest at least 4 days before the trip. 5% GST is added to the price.
